We always want to work with the best people we can. The people at the top. The ones you read about in books and magazines. Well unfortunately, a lot of the time they only come with big budgets, unless you happen to have a long standing relationship with them. However, everybody starts somewhere, and there's always a new generation of awesomeness on every horizon!
Danielle Ciullo needed a photographer to help out with her final project for her Fashion Promotion BA (Hons) at the University for the Creative Arts, which was where I studied back when it was the Surrey Institute of Art & Design, in Farnham.

I was recommended to Danielle by her sister Gabby, an awesome make-up artist I've worked with several times in the past. I was needed for 2 shoots, both had clear concepts and she knew exactly what she wanted from each shoot. The first was based on a Mondrian painting, and has actually sparked a personal project of mine whereby I plan to recreate various paintings photographically.
Anyway, last night was the opening of the degree show, and I was invited along to the private viewing. It's always nice to see my images printed up big on a wall, and Danielle's course tutors had selected 4 images from the students' projects to display at the entrance to the exhibition. It's the first time I've had my work in an exhibition since my own graduation. Something I might have to consider addressing.
Whilst at the exhibition I got the chance to look through the work and chat to the next generation of stylists, art directors and fashion PR's. These guys are all full of ideas and hungry for success. There are thousands of young talents out there graduating every year and showcasing their work in exhibitions. Don't miss your chance to work with the hot property of the future.
The UCA Fashion Promotion BA (Hons) Degree Show is on till Sunday 5th June at The OXO Tower Gallery, OXO Tower Wharf, Bargehouse Street, London SE1 9PB. Admission : Free

An interesting post, it would be great to hear that established people were working with new/undiscovered talent. Is it not desirable or possibly even a responsibility of the current 'big' names to support those who follow on behind them.
Great photography Jay and congratulations to Danielle on what appears to be a very successful show.
I wouldn't say it's a responsibility. Ultimately, we all want to work with the best people we can, so it's only natural that when you get to the top, you work with other people at the top.
Of course there are internships, assisting roles and the like that all help grass roots etc.
