Top iPad Apps

I've had my iPad now for about a week and a half and can honestly say it's one of the most useful bits of kit I own. A few people have asked about which apps I've been using, so i thought I'd do a quick blog about my favourites.

Flipboard is one of the first I downloaded. My friend Ruan showed it to me on his a couple of months ago and I loved it. What it does is take your Twitter and Facebook feeds and convert them into magazine type pages that you can flick through like a proper magazine. Images come up nice and big, and status updates are like pull out quotes. If someone posts a link to a webpage, flipboard uses that content to fill the page. The other cool thing about it is that you can still reply, comment, and "like" anything you see from within the flipboard app!

London Fashion Week

I've always believed that in order to be really good at something, you have to be interested and ideally enjoy doing it. I'm a photographer first and foremost, but I also love fashion, and as someone who loves fashion, it's very important to me to know what's going on in the industry. Obviously there are magazines, and plenty of fashion blogs I can read, but there's no substitute for seeing the latest collections first hand at London Fashion Week.

For a lot of photographers, the easiest way in is to get a press pass and then go and stand at the end of the runway taking photos. Alternatively, they can wander around outside snapping the fashionistas as they dash between shows. For me, that's not something I'm enthusiastic about. I like to create images, not stand in the same place as a dozen other photographers getting exactly the same photos as them. I go to fashion shows to see the collections and to network with people in the industry.

IPhone Revisited

Last year I blogged about iPhones and how they've become one of the most widely used pieces of photographic equipment in use today. I love my iPhone and take photos with it pretty much every day. The question I'm probably asked most often by photographers is which app I use on my iPhone to edit my images.

For a while I was a massive fan of Hipstamatic. For most people this is the easiest way to create really cool looking retro effects. The problem i have with Hipstamatic though, is that it's just too damned slow! So for me, it's just not that useful for day to day image making. So what do i use as an alternative?

My app of the moment is reasonably cheap app, named "PictureShow". With this I use the standard iPhone camera to take the images, and then edit them afterwards... in a similar workflow to the way I would create images with my "proper" camera.

PictureShow has loads of effects that can be applied. You can nails add light leaks, noise and vignettes. It also add text and various frames and then publish the finished images to most of the usual social networking sites.

I hope this helps all those of you who have been asking. Anymore questions you have about the things i do, and how I do them, just email [email protected].

Long time no blog!

Well according to my blogger account, I haven't posted a blog since the end of July.... Not good!

There's a simple reason for my quietness... I've just been really busy. For those who haven't been following my updates on Twitter (shame on you), here's a brief synopsis of the last couple of months...

Since I last blogged, my work has involved new clients, old clients, studio work, and location work. I've worked at theme parks, on the banks of the Thames, in amazing town houses and various studios. I've got to play with swords and snakes and set fire to games consoles... and I've been able to call all of it work!

Suffice it to say, I'm enjoying my work!

Anyway, I've got various blog post ideas i want to share over the next couple of months. I now have an iPad which will hopefully help me to blog more easily. If anyone has anything specific they'd like me to write about then drop me an email or leave a comment and I'll do my best to accommodate people.

Speak soon peeps! :)
