Are old digital cameras still viable in 2018? - Olympus PEN E-PL1

Moving on from the incredibly large Canon EOS 1D Mark III in my series of old cameras and their viability in 2018, brings us to the Olympus PEN E-PL1. Launched in 2010, it’s safe to say that this camera changed my life!

Back then I was using both a Hasselblad H3DII and the aforementioned Canon EOS 1D Mark III for all my work photography, but I wanted something for ordinary every day photos. Hipstamatic was huge at the time for iPhone, but I just wasn’t into using my phone for photography.

Are old digital cameras still viable in 2018? - Canon EOS 1D Mark III

Shortly after becoming a professional photographer, I decided I needed to ‘look more professional’ (I’m far less concerned with what that might mean these days). Anyway, in 2007, the Canon EOS 1D Mark III was released. I used this camera pretty much exclusively until I got a Hasselblad H3DII. These then both became ‘work cameras’ and I would switch between them depending on the job.

Similar to my previous blog about my old Fuji Finepix 2800 Zoom, I thought it would be interesting to see how viable this 11 year old camera is in 2018 for every day Instagram and social media.

Pleasingly Priced Peacoat Perfection

I’m very impulsive when it comes to shopping. It’s why I suck at buying things online. I much prefer to wander around aimlessly and then grab something that catches my eye!

I went out last Saturday because I wanted some black leather gloves (turns out, not as easy to get as you might think!). Anyway, I’ve been a bit of a New Look convert of late. My favourite ripped black jeans are from New Look and I wear them all the time! Whilst making a beeline for the accessories rack for some gloves, I caught this Peacoat out of the corner of my eye.

Winter is Coming

Finally, having seen Game of Thrones, I can actually say ‘Winter is coming’ and know where it comes from, beyond a meme of Sean Bean!

Either way, it’s definitely got a bit on the cold side! I was shooting outside all day yesterday, and I just wasn’t prepared! Today is the second day in a row of outdoor shooting around London, so last night I set out on a mission to get a Parka. Something I haven’t owned since I was about 8 years old!

The Camel Coat

Literally a year ago I bought my first camel coat, which quickly became one of my go to winter staples, but unfortunately (or fortunately) by the time I pulled out my winter wardrobe, last years coat from H&M was too big. So this obviously meant a trip out shopping for a new one! Yay!!!

It seems that most places are favouring a narrow or in some cases even no lapel this season, whereas I was hoping for something a bit wider this time around. I ended up with a double breasted, which feels super warm when buttoned up, but when open I feel it adds a little something extra over a single breasted.

A Pop of Colour

Seems that my standard uniform is pretty monochrome these days. I like it though. Neutral tones are easier to mix and match and create varied looks. That doesn’t mean I don’t like to have a little accented colour from time to time though.

I picked this overcoat up last year on impulse and it’s one of the few things that still fits! (Everything else is too big for me these days! 🙊). I got the blazer in the Zara sale earlier in the summer. I popped in on my way out to a party because I didn’t have anything else that fitted. Literally got changed in the changing room and threw the old tshirt I had on in the bin! I’ve never had anything double breasted before, but I’m really into it!
