NYC Behind the Scenes Video

I’m a bad youtuber. I know the key to growing on YouTube as a platform is consistency, but editing videos takes way longer than I can be bothered with. Capturing interesting video is also far more time consuming than still photography, due to things like alternative angles and b-roll being important to making movies more interesting and compelling. 

On my recent trip to New York City with Olympus PEN, I was lucky that we had someone with us capturing some behind the scenes footage for us.

Olympus PEN x NYC

Back in May I found myself ticking off the number one place in the world I’d never been... New York City! People were usually shocked when I told them I’d never visited NYC. It was always somewhere I’d longed to see, but the opportunity just never came around until recently.

Fortunately Olympus decided to use New York as the backdrop for promotional images for the new blue version of their E-PL9 camera, along with a whole host of other content they were looking to capture. To say I jumped at the chance would be an understatement!

Olympus 'OM-D Events' Workshop

I've always been sceptical about my teaching abilities in the past, so when Olympus asked if I would be up for doing a couple of workshops as part of their OM-D Events series, I was a little apprehensive. My main concern was how was I going to fill the 4 hour time slot with decent and worthwhile content that people would find both informative and inspiring?

I've never given any talks before, so I had no clue how long things take to talk about, but after a couple of days with a notepad and pen (old skool is still the way to brainstorm!), I managed to put together a decent framework. The main point of my talk was always going to be more theoretical and philosophical, rather than showing people lighting setups and the like. There are plenty of people out there teaching that kind of stuff.

Photokina 2012

So literally 2 hours after getting home from my final engagement at London Fashion Week, I was up and getting ready for my trip to Cologne, Germany for Hasselblad.

After getting to Stansted I tucked into an awesome pancake breakfast, where Mark from Hasselblad presented me with a small gift of an Olympus OM book he found at a car boot sale... Thanks Mark!
