Game Review - Anthem

Anthem has been a game I’ve been excited about since i first heard about it. I’ve never played a game from its launch before. I typically come to them a few years later, after everyone has done all the content and has no patience for a noob who has no clue what he’s doing. So with the launch of Anthem this month, I had the novel experience of playing a game where everyone is a noob to some degree.

Looter shooters are typically not my type of game, but that’s because most are first person, and I’ve always sucked at first person shooters... you should see me play Star Wars Battlefront II! It’s comical how bad I am! Anthem is played in third person, which is much more my kind of thing. Not only that, it’s a sci-fi themed story with mechanised suits that enable you to fly around. Awesome!

Game Review - The Elder Scrolls Online

Following my failed attempt to get into World of Warcraft, another game I’d heard about, but never played was The Elder Scrolls. One of the people who works in my favourite coffee shop is a huge Elder Scrolls fan, so I thought it would be a good game to try out, little did I realise how complicated that idea was going to be! For a start, there are many versions, sequels and follow ups. I thought Skyrim was a different game, especially when I saw a poster on the tube for an orchestral performance of the music of Skyrim at the London Palladium, but it’s actually just a chapter of the game. As much as part of me thought I should start at the beginning, sometimes dated graphics and gameplay annoy me in a way that I can’t fully enjoy the story of the game. With that in mind, and with my affiliation with the MMO genre, I opted for The Elder Scrolls Online.

My First Time #12 - World of Warcraft

Released in 2004, World of Warcraft is a Massively Multiplayer Online Role Playing Game (MMORPG). It’s also arguably the most popular MMORPG of all time with over 100 million registered user accounts by 2017 and grossing almost $10 Billion in revenue, the highest of any gaming franchise ever. Of course registered accounts doesn’t mean active players, but with over 10 million paid monthly subscribers currently, it’s fair to say that World of Warcraft is still an incredibly popular game.

My Gaming PC Died

A few months back I blogged the step by step process of building my first gaming pc. It was a really fun experience and gaming on a machine that I built myself was such a thrill.

I was hoping at this point to have done a few posts on some of the games I play and maybe do a couple of reviews on the peripherals I use, but work and life have kept me a little too busy, which is no bad thing and definitely not something I’m complaining about!

I Built a Gaming PC!

It often surprises people that I’m actually a massive geek. I’m a child of the 80’s, so things like Star Wars and Star Trek we’re important parts of growing up. We always had a computer in the house for as long as I can remember. We started with a32K BBC Micro, before I bought a second hand48K ZX Sinclair Spectrum(which I still have at Mum and Dad’s somewhere!)

I still have my original Gameboy sitting on the shelf of my flat. It still works, although I only have Tetris here. My copies of Super Mario, Kirby’s Dreamland and Megaman 3 are somewhere at my Mum & Dad’s with my Spectrum.
