Fragrance Review - Safari by Ralph Lauren

This was a completely impulse blind buy for absolutely no legitimate reason, but hey, that’s the kind of guy I am. Because of an upcoming trip, the same trip I recently bought my first pair of hiking boots for, I figured I needed a good fragrance for wearing on a hike. Something masculine and classic. Something that wouldn’t be out of place on Indiana Jones. The obvious choice was Safari by Ralph Lauren, so without a second thought, or even looking at any reviews, I ordered it!

Now in reality, it’s probably better to go without fragrances when in nature, so I probably won’t be spraying it overly liberally in an effort to avoid leaving a cloud of Ralph behind me as I wander through the forest. To be honest, a good choice for this purpose would be something like Escentric Molecules ‘Molecule 01’, which is supposedly a fragrance that is subtle and mixes with your own pheromones. I don’t have that, and haven’t seen it anywhere to try it, so maybe next time.

Fragrance Review - Dolce & Gabbana The One EDP

I’ve had Dolce & Gabbana ‘The One’ on my wishlist for ages, so I was super chuffed to unwrap this bottle as a Christmas present from Mum and Dad a few weeks ago. What’s even better is that this is the newer, fancier, more concentrated EDP version, which, in the words of Dolce & Gabbana offers “a deeper fragrance experience for the perfume connoisseur. Masculine and magnetic, this highly intense scent is a statement of charisma and sophistication.”

As I’ve mentioned in previous posts, I’ve been looking to increase the number of darker fragrances that are more suitable for the winter months, as well as some slightly more masculine vibes for evenings all year round. Most of my fragrance history has consisted of light citrussy notes, and whilst I still love those fresher fragrances, I want to wear scents that are more situationally appropriate. It’s a important to smell for the occasion as it is to dress for the occasion I think.

JAYS T-Four Wireless Earphones Review

I’ve been meaning to get a new pair of in-ear earphones for ages. I’ve always had issues with them falling out in the past and have generally opted for those with hooks, but even then, I’m constantly adjusting them as the move around. When Apple infamously removed the headphone jack from the iPhone I grabbed a cheap sports set of in-ears, but due to the bad fit, and the tragically poor battery life, I rarely used them, and instead opted for big over ear headphones instead. Over ears are probably my preferred style, however, as a hat wearer, they can conflict with certain aesthetic choices, although in the winter, they double as earmuffs, so they definitely have pros and cons.

Anyway, I digress… Whilst Christmas shopping, I spotted these rather understated in-ears from Swedish company ‘JAYS’. I mean with a name like that, how could I not, right?

Fragrance Review - Versace The Dreamer

Way back when it was initially released in 1994, I was a big fan of Versace Blue Jeans, and I still have a bottle of it on my shelf. Two years later, Versace released it’s follow up fragrance, The Dreamer, and until recently, I never even knew it existed!

I tried this on a tester at the airport before a trip a few months ago and liked it, but ultimately decided to buy Dior Fahrenheit at the time. When I saw it on Amazon for a bargain price, I figured I should probably grab it while I can!

Olympus AZ-1 Zoom Review

I’ve been really determined to go back to my roots with photography and rekindle the wonderment I had when everything was new, so I’ve been picking up and shooting on a few old 35mm film cameras. I picked up this Olympus AZ-1 Zoom from eBay for £3.99. I had no idea whether it was any good, or even if it would actually work, but for that price it was worth the risk.

First retailing in 1987, the AZ-1 Zoom was Olympus’ first compact camera to feature an integrated zoom lens. For a point and shoot camera, it was pretty advanced, with a macro mode, continuous shooting, and a viewfinder that zoomed along with the lens.

Fragrance Review - Lapidus Pour Homme Black Extreme

Lapidus Pour Homme is a powerhouse fragrance from 1987 that if you’re not careful, can be really overpowering in the majority of situations. So with that in mind, Lapidus’ 2012 release of Lapidus Pour Homme Black Extreme already sounds like a bad idea!

In my review of the original, I said it was a love it or hate it fragrance, so it would be interesting to see if this is a modernised version, following more recent trends, or indeed just an ‘extreme’ version of the first variation.
