Movie Review - Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles (2014)

Continuing my childhood nostalgia trip, I figured I’d give the 2014 reboot of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles a watch. For some reason it had managed to pass me by and I had no idea of the plot or whether it was any good or not.

Having been a huuuuuge Turtles fan as a kid, I had high hopes for the new movie, but before watching it, to get in the mood, I decided to rewatch the original movies from the early 90s!

Classic Movie Review - Dirty Harry

There’s no doubting that Clint Eastwood is a Hollywood legend, so it’s probablt about time I saw the movie that made him a superstar. One of my favourite Eastwood movies is Firefox, but this is an entirely different affair.

The first thing I noticed at the beginning of Dirty Harry was the classic 70s cop vibes from the music. The soundtrack was by Lalo Schifrin, who also did the soundtrack for Bullitt, the last classic movie I watched... which, like this, was set in San Francisco. Seemed a fitting movie to follow it on with.

Classic Movie Review - Bullitt

I have a bit of an obsession with Steve McQueen. As far as style icons go, I don’t think there are many men that can measure up to how effortlessly cool he was. So with that said, it’s surprising I haven’t seen more stuff with him in. As far as I can remember, the only movie so far is Le Mans, which is pretty epic, and definitely one to watch.

I’ve known about Bullitt for years, ever since Ford made an advert for the Puma using not only the music, but footage of McQueen driving to advertise their new sports car. Now the Puma was a great car, but let’s be real, it’s no Mustang, like the one seen in Bullitt!

Classic Movie Review - Ben Hur

At 3hrs 42mins, the 1959 release of Ben Hur has to be one of the longest films I’ve ever seen! Starring Charlton Heston, this was actually a remake of a silent movie from 1925, and has since been remade again in 2016. That being said, this is the one most people talk about when they mention Ben Hur.

Due to its length, I’d been putting this one off for ages. Dedicating almost 4 hours to a single movie is a proper commitment, and not one you can do at half nine on weeknight!

Classic Movie Review - Easy Rider

1969’s Easy Rider is a film that my mum wouldn’t let me watch as a kid. Probably because most of the movie is cantered around drugs. In fact, Dennis Hopper, Peter Fonda and Jack Nicholson were actually stoned for most of the filming. There was no completed script, and much of the dialogue was improvised to add to the realism.
