Childhood Nostalgia

Maybe it’s a mid life crisis, I’m on a bit of a nostalgia trip right now. It’s fun looking back at some of the things you did or enjoyed during your childhood. As a kid you do what you like, rather than what others think is cool. It’s something that’s missing in this modern social media world. So I’ve been looking back at who I used to be, and getting back in touch with my inner child.

What’s amazed me is how many aspects of my life growing up are still relevant to the things I’m interested now. This post is quite long, so I recommend getting a cup of your favourite childhood beverage, sitting back and coming on a journey with me through some of the things that have defined me as a person, and what I plan to embrace more of in the future!

Toshiba PDR-M60 Review (2000)

The Toshiba PDR-M60 was my first ever digital camera. Up until this point I was shooting everything on my Minolta Vectis S-1 APS SLR, or using disposable cameras on nights out. One of my art college flat mates had a Sony digital camera that took a floppy disk as media storage, and as my course was requiring more and more images in digital format, it made sense to shoot them that way instead of going through the annoyance of film processing and scanning.

Are old digital cameras still viable in 2018? - Fujifilm Finepix 2800 Zoom

I often get asked by people about what camera they should buy, and when the majority of people are using Instagram as their main place to show their images, often my answer is something along the lines of ‘you can’t buy a bad camera these days’.

With places like eBay and Depop being filled with a whole host of second hand cameras, I was wondering what the pros and cons of old digital cameras are for everyday Instagram photography. I have almost all my old cameras, so I’m going to do a bunch of tests to see what is and isn’t viable in 2018.
