Childhood Nostalgia

Maybe it’s a mid life crisis, I’m on a bit of a nostalgia trip right now. It’s fun looking back at some of the things you did or enjoyed during your childhood. As a kid you do what you like, rather than what others think is cool. It’s something that’s missing in this modern social media world. So I’ve been looking back at who I used to be, and getting back in touch with my inner child.

What’s amazed me is how many aspects of my life growing up are still relevant to the things I’m interested now. This post is quite long, so I recommend getting a cup of your favourite childhood beverage, sitting back and coming on a journey with me through some of the things that have defined me as a person, and what I plan to embrace more of in the future!

Are old digital cameras still viable in 2018? - Canon Powershot S2 IS

The Canon Powershot S2 IS is a bit of a key moment in my photography history. Despite having used SLR’s with film, my digital camera journey by 2005 had limited me in terms of versatility and creativity. I had been using my Fuji FinePix 2800 Zoom up until this point, which wasn’t the best, albeit ok for the time. Back then I was working as a graphic designer, having not yet realised that photography was my true passion. My then boss Nick, who hired me because he loved photography and I had a whole section of my design portfolio full of photos decided that for ‘work purposes’ we should take a day trip to the NEC to Focus on Imaging.

Whilst wandering around the vast halls of the NEC and marvelling at a world I knew little about, I ended up impulse buying the Canon Powershot S2 IS at some sort of discounted show price, but I forget how much I actually paid.

Minolta Vectis S-1 Review (1996)

Believe it or not, but this space age looking camera is actually over 20 years old. Not only that, but this was my first SLR camera, so is kind of an important landmark in my photographic journey!

For my 16th birthday, I was offered a choice by my parents, who both worked in aviation (hence my love of of air travel). They said in could either have flying lessons (in a plane, not as a superhero unfortunately), or I could have a ‘proper camera’. The Minolta Vectis S-1 was the result of that decision.

Cold Comfort

It’s been properly cold this week! I mean, not like arctic cold, but brrrrrr that wind chill!!! I definitely prefer the summer weather over winter from a comfort perspective, but having said that, winter does give more options for layering than hot temperatures. As it gets even colder though, I do find myself wanting to wear more and more comfy casual clothing. I figure if the weather is uncomfortable, my clothes should balance it out right?

A Pop of Colour

Seems that my standard uniform is pretty monochrome these days. I like it though. Neutral tones are easier to mix and match and create varied looks. That doesn’t mean I don’t like to have a little accented colour from time to time though.

I picked this overcoat up last year on impulse and it’s one of the few things that still fits! (Everything else is too big for me these days! 🙊). I got the blazer in the Zara sale earlier in the summer. I popped in on my way out to a party because I didn’t have anything else that fitted. Literally got changed in the changing room and threw the old tshirt I had on in the bin! I’ve never had anything double breasted before, but I’m really into it!

Olympus PEN Party Greece

A little over a week ago I had one of the most hectic few days of my life. I was in Greece at Nikki Beach with Olympus for the launch of the brand new Olympus PEN E-PL8 camera, and with us was what seemed at times like thousands of bloggers from all over Europe. In actual fact, it was less than 100, but it was still a lot!

I was there as an Olympus ambassador to teach bloggers how to improve their photography and also to do a few shoots with a small number of them.
