Childhood Nostalgia

Maybe it’s a mid life crisis, I’m on a bit of a nostalgia trip right now. It’s fun looking back at some of the things you did or enjoyed during your childhood. As a kid you do what you like, rather than what others think is cool. It’s something that’s missing in this modern social media world. So I’ve been looking back at who I used to be, and getting back in touch with my inner child.

What’s amazed me is how many aspects of my life growing up are still relevant to the things I’m interested now. This post is quite long, so I recommend getting a cup of your favourite childhood beverage, sitting back and coming on a journey with me through some of the things that have defined me as a person, and what I plan to embrace more of in the future!

Classic Movie Review - Ben Hur

At 3hrs 42mins, the 1959 release of Ben Hur has to be one of the longest films I’ve ever seen! Starring Charlton Heston, this was actually a remake of a silent movie from 1925, and has since been remade again in 2016. That being said, this is the one most people talk about when they mention Ben Hur.

Due to its length, I’d been putting this one off for ages. Dedicating almost 4 hours to a single movie is a proper commitment, and not one you can do at half nine on weeknight!

I Built a Gaming PC!

It often surprises people that I’m actually a massive geek. I’m a child of the 80’s, so things like Star Wars and Star Trek we’re important parts of growing up. We always had a computer in the house for as long as I can remember. We started with a32K BBC Micro, before I bought a second hand48K ZX Sinclair Spectrum(which I still have at Mum and Dad’s somewhere!)

I still have my original Gameboy sitting on the shelf of my flat. It still works, although I only have Tetris here. My copies of Super Mario, Kirby’s Dreamland and Megaman 3 are somewhere at my Mum & Dad’s with my Spectrum.

Classic Movies I Should Have Seen By Now!

I love movies! I definitely prefer to sit in front of a screen and watch a story unfold than to read it from the pages of a book. In an age of never ending Top 5/10/50/100 rundowns, I often see lists of all time classic movies ‘everyone should have seen’ ...and you know what? I’ve hardly seen any of them!

I guess I’ve always just been more drawn to new Hollywood blockbusters as they come out, rather than films made before I was born... I mean some of them aren’t even in colour!!! Hahaha!

Star Wars : The Last Jedi Review

Let’s get something out of the way right now... I’m a massive huge geek for Star Wars! I grew up in the 80s when it was all new. Lightsabers and Jedi are things very close to my heart, and Luke Skywalker, the farm boy from Tatooine, is a legend!

I could literally talk about Star Wars for hours. I love the fan theories and ideas as much as I love the movies and animated series themselves! I realise this probably makes me sad and tragic in some people’s eyes, but I am who I am!
