Are old digital cameras still viable in 2018? - Canon Powershot S2 IS

The Canon Powershot S2 IS is a bit of a key moment in my photography history. Despite having used SLR’s with film, my digital camera journey by 2005 had limited me in terms of versatility and creativity. I had been using my Fuji FinePix 2800 Zoom up until this point, which wasn’t the best, albeit ok for the time. Back then I was working as a graphic designer, having not yet realised that photography was my true passion. My then boss Nick, who hired me because he loved photography and I had a whole section of my design portfolio full of photos decided that for ‘work purposes’ we should take a day trip to the NEC to Focus on Imaging.

Whilst wandering around the vast halls of the NEC and marvelling at a world I knew little about, I ended up impulse buying the Canon Powershot S2 IS at some sort of discounted show price, but I forget how much I actually paid.

NYC Behind the Scenes Video

I’m a bad youtuber. I know the key to growing on YouTube as a platform is consistency, but editing videos takes way longer than I can be bothered with. Capturing interesting video is also far more time consuming than still photography, due to things like alternative angles and b-roll being important to making movies more interesting and compelling.

On my recent trip to New York City with Olympus PEN, I was lucky that we had someone with us capturing some behind the scenes footage for us.

Olympus PEN x NYC

Back in May I found myself ticking off the number one place in the world I’d never been... New York City! People were usually shocked when I told them I’d never visited NYC. It was always somewhere I’d longed to see, but the opportunity just never came around until recently.

Fortunately Olympus decided to use New York as the backdrop for promotional images for the new blue version of their E-PL9 camera, along with a whole host of other content they were looking to capture. To say I jumped at the chance would be an understatement!

Interview for Made Online Podcast

If anyone knows me, they know I like to talk! Seriously, I need someone to shut me up, not encourage me sometimes! Anyway, I was super chuffed to be asked by Hayley Hall (AKA London Beauty Queen) to feature on her 'Made Online' podcast!

Blogger Workshops Mailing List

One of the things I get asked about a lot is ‘when are you next doing a photography workshop?’

Often I only know about a month in advance, but in an effort to make sure I keep everyone up to date, I’ve set up a mailing list for people to subscribe to.

Now I promise I won’t be spamming anyone, and you can unsubscribe at any time, but this will be the best way to know if and when I have a blogger workshop coming up. It also allows you to choose the type of workshop you’re interested in, which should further reduce the risk of spam.

So if you do want to keep up to date, you can visit  http://www.jaymclaughlin.co.uk/bloggerworkshops and subscribe!

Review - Olympus PEN E-PL9

It’s fair to say that I’m a little bit of an Olympus PEN expert. I recently posted about my Olympus PEN E-PL1, which I bought way back in 2010 and fell in love with. Over time I formed a relationship with Olympus, and as such, have used many variants of the PEN range.

So I think it’s fair to say I’m familiar with the Olympus PEN range of cameras, and there’s now a new kid on the block!

The Olympus PEN E-PL9 was launched last week, and I’ve had loads of people wanting to know my opinion on it, so who am I to disappoint?
