Are old digital cameras still viable in 2018? - Canon EOS 1D Mark III

Shortly after becoming a professional photographer, I decided I needed to ‘look more professional’ (I’m far less concerned with what that might mean these days). Anyway, in 2007, the Canon EOS 1D Mark III was released. I used this camera pretty much exclusively until I got a Hasselblad H3DII. These then both became ‘work cameras’ and I would switch between them depending on the job.

Similar to my previous blog about my old Fuji Finepix 2800 Zoom, I thought it would be interesting to see how viable this 11 year old camera is in 2018 for every day Instagram and social media.

Olympus OM-D E-M5

A few months ago I blogged about a shoot I did for Olympus User magazine to review the new Olympus OM-D. Well having used the camera for several months now, I thought I would go a bit more in depth and go through some of my feelings and experiences of this new camera.

Last year I blogged about my Olympus PEN E-PL1 and how much I loved it. After a year of using it, whilst still loving it and taking it everywhere, I had discovered a few areas I thought it could improve upon. Well Olympus have clearly developed a telepathic R&A department, because all the niggles that were in my head are completely gone on the OM-D!

It's not the camera...

Talk to any photographer, and number one on irritating comments goes something like "wow, your camera takes amazing photos!". It's the nature of what we do that we can't make photographs without the technology, and as the technology advances, a lot of people assume it does most of the work. It's funny that if someone writes a book, they don't receive comments on how amazing their word processing software is! After seeing this cartoon on "What the Duck", my usual retort is something like this...

Buyer Beware! - Camerabox.co.uk

I recently decided to sell my HD camcorder and replace it with a DSLR with HD video capability. I opted for Canon's budget 500D camera body as I only use the videos for YouTube etc, so couldn't justify splashing out on a 7D or 5Dmk2. Stills are my first love, and I'm more than happy with my 1Dmk3.
