Carnivore Diet - Week Eight
Week eight! Whoop! I started the week with a gym session. This was the first time I’d been to the gym since starting this ridiculous way of eating. As usual I trained fasted, and did a full body workout. I was surprised at how little strength I’ve lost. I expected to be way weaker, but other than maybe losing 1-2 reps on my arms on the final set, I was just as strong as last time I went. I felt like I got a great pump too! I did get a yearning on the way home to go to the shop and get a protein bar of some kind, but I think that was probably more habit than anything else.
Later that day I met up for lunch with Emma Hill, and as a burger fan herself we went to Five Guys. Funniest thing was seeing the look on Emma’s face as I ordered a double bacon cheeseburger, but with no bun, sauce or salad! It was pure shock and disgust! The guy behind the counter took the order like it was a normal thing, and when I got my food I was intrigued to see how it would look. It was served in a foil tray with cutlery, but if I’m entirely honest, without the sauce, it was kind of dry, and not as nice as I usually get from Five Guys. You really shouldn't mess with burgers too much and take away what makes them great! Haha!
The following day, my body decided to punish me for my gym session. It was brutal, and pretty much everywhere hurt! Kind of in a good way, apart from my arms, which continued to hurt quite a lot for about 3 days after. I made sure to lots of stretching and take regular epsom salt baths, which definitely helped ease the pain.
I’ve been enjoying cooking more roasts, and this week I did Roast Lamb. Unlike last week’s pork, I managed to eat this in one sitting. It was pretty awesome! A really cheap meal is pork belly slices. They’ve got loads of fat and they taste great when fried in butter or lard.
A couple of health things I’ve noticed this week. My bathroom routine is far more regular than it has been, even before I started the carnivore diet. I’m breathing differently too. It’s hard to explain, but I feel like I’m breathing more deeply. I don’t know if this is good or bad, or why it’s a thing, but I noticed it all the same.
One negative is that my skin has got quite bad this week. Still annoying that there’s no definitive answer to the causes or solutions to sebhoriec dermatitis, but I’m wondering if it’s either cheese or caffeine related. I’m going to stay off cheese for a couple of weeks to see how that goes. I’m also going to see if switching to decaf coffee has any effect, but that’s going to be a rough few days of headaches if the past is anything to go by!
