Carnivore Diet - Week Seven
Week 7, and shit’s getting real... literally! This is going to be a bit graphic, so you may want to finish whatever you’re eating before continuing.
When I embarked on this crazy idea of no fruit or vegetables, and only eating meat, the first concern I had was how a lack of fibre was going to affect my bathroom frequency. We’re always told that we need a good amount of fibre to keep regular and avoid constipation, so cutting out completely is surely going to cause problems right?
I’ve never been an every day kinda person. Usually every other day, but when I first cut out all carbs that did slow down a bit. What’s interesting is that I didn’t feel constipated, and when I did go, I didn’t need to strain. Turns out, meat is far more nutrient rich and bioavailable than fruit and veg, so you have less waste overall.
For the past few days, I have actually been going every day for some reason. This isn’t good or bad, just observing changes. What isn’t ideal is that this morning (Bank holiday Monday), I had some stomach cramping and diarrhoea... like a lot! I managed to drop over half a kg between waking up and mid morning!!!
Apparently, according to my Google-Fu, this isn’t uncommon as your body adapts. It can take many weeks for your body to completely deplete of all carbohydrates, and will also dispose of any unneeded gut bacteria and microflora. I will say that I felt so thin afterwards, so wasn’t all bad, but not the recommended way to dispose of those extra pounds.
By the end of the day, everything was back to normal, and as the week progressed, so did the weight loss. My skin is looking way better, and feeling better. I’ve never been one for loads of skin care products, so I’m not doing anything different. Will have to see if this improvement is permanent or I go back to more flare ups.
I’ve noticed changes in my teeth. For a couple of days my gums were sore on one side. No idea why, but the pain went away. My teeth do seem to be whiter when I look in the mirror, but that could just be down to not drinking Coke Zero anymore.
The main thing that’s blown me away is how much cheaper my food shopping is. I seem to be eating way more food, for far less money. I’ve been keeping an eye open for deals, and I managed to pick up a pork joint on sale.
Now this was meant to serve 9 people as part of a Sunday roast with all the trimmings, but obviously I just cooked it for one, because I’m an animal. Crazy thing happened though, which if you read about my last cheat day, you’ll see I’ve had problems with..: I got full and stopped eating! This never happens when I eat carbs. I eat until all the food is gone and then go searching for more.
On this occasion I was actually able to put half of it back in the fridge and have leftovers the following day! This might not seem like it, but it’s actually a big thing for me!
I’m a big fan of ‘What I’ve Learned’ on YouTube. His videos are always really well researched and put together. Interestingly, he just made a video on the Carnivore Diet, and the science behind it. Worth taking a look...
