Nautical Fashion on HMS Belfast for Daily Express Saturday Magazine
I love a photographic challenge, and about a month ago I was shooting for the Daily Express' Saturday magazine, and we were definitely challenged! The backdrop for our nautical themed fashion story was HMS Belfast. We were super lucky to have permission to shoot there, but there was a caveat... we only had access between 8am when they opened they got there in the morning, to 10am when they opened the doors to the public, and we had 10 looks to shoot in that time!
A week ahead of the shoot, were were given a tour of the ship. This was invaluable, because it allowed me to plan each shot, and for Rivkie, the stylist to work out which pieces the model would wear in each location.
Call time on the day was 5:30am. This gave ample time for hair and makeup to be done off site, and then for us to be at HMS Belfast for 8am sharp. Once there, I was militant with my timings. I had a countdown timer setup on my watch, and allotted myself 5 minutes shooting time per look.
Everything worked like clockwork, and we ended up finishing with a couple of minutes to spare!
